General Info

If you’re exploring tea spots in Santa Ana, Bako Tea House is one of those places that feels easy to settle into. Tucked along Macarthur Crescent, this tea house blends a relaxed vibe with a thoughtfully curated menu that keeps regulars coming back.

Walking in, the space feels welcoming without trying too hard. It’s the kind of spot where you can hang out with friends or just enjoy a quiet drink on your own. The service is straightforward and convenient, with options for delivery and takeout if you’re on the go. Plus, practical touches like a wheelchair accessible restroom, a gender-neutral restroom, and the ability to pay with credit cards make the experience smooth from start to finish.

Now, let’s talk about the drinks-because that’s where this tea house really shines. The Bako Milk Frappe is a standout if you’re craving something creamy and refreshing. It’s rich but not overwhelming, which makes it easy to sip slowly. On the other hand, the Earl Grey Latte leans more classic, with a balanced tea flavor that feels both comforting and slightly elevated. If you’re into textures, adding Tapioca Pearl is a must-it brings that familiar chewy bite that pairs perfectly with both milk-based and fruity drinks.

Speaking of fruity, the Passionfruit Green Tea 百香夏茉綠 offers a bright, slightly tangy twist that cuts through the sweetness nicely. It’s especially refreshing on warmer days and adds a different layer to the overall menu. And while tea is clearly the focus, the hint of Black Pepper in select offerings adds a surprising depth, giving certain drinks a subtle kick that sets them apart from typical tea house options.

The location itself is easy to access, and while it doesn’t try to be flashy, it delivers where it matters-good drinks, consistent service, and a comfortable environment. Reviews often highlight how reliable the flavors are, which is something you don’t always find in every tea house. It’s clear that the team behind the counter pays attention to detail, from preparation to presentation.

Overall, whether you’re browsing for new locations to try or just looking for a dependable spot with a solid menu, this place fits right in.

What customers say?

“ At least 3rd time here since opening. Favorite new place in OC. Love the tea or milk heavy options. Boba: right texture and chewiness. Agar boba: on small side and sweet. This will bump the sweetness up several notches, ie, if 25% sugar, tastes more like 75-100% sugar. -Jasmine milk, tea heavy: superb! 5* -Roasted oolong milk, tea heavy: Great but I think could be little more "roasted" aroma, 5* -Phoenix milk. Tea heavy: superb! 5* Overall: 5* and will return each time we visit OC. 12.22.25: for the road to airport ”

“ Great and tea and even better service. I tried the roasted Oolong tea, they had the option to increase tea or milk. The barista let me know if I didn’t like I could increase tea after trying it for free. I did and the drink is wonderful, the tea is strong and the boba is cooked perfectly. Wonderful spot I wish them the best. ”

“ Tasty boba drinks! The menu offers a pretty wide range of teas and flavors. Everything seemed good and the prices were reasonable considering the quality presented! * Passionfruit Green Tea: 8/10 - good flavor but they aren't able to remove the passionfruit seeds which is annoying * Lychee Oolong Tea: 9/10 - nice balance of sweet and tart * Tapioca Boba (Topping): 9/10 - soft and chewy The shop itself is not super tiny, but also not very spacious either. They offer some tables and chairs inside as well as a couple outside. It's located in this apartment area which is a bit weird, but there were plenty of parking spots and underground parking. The workers were nice, but they seemed to be pretty backed up. We noticed a bunch of drinks just sitting on the counter waiting for the worker to give them out. Highly recommend checking them out if you're ever in the area! ”

“ It's an artisan tea shop that focuses more on quality tea than desserty, trendy stuff. The teas are all amazing and you really get to taste the richness and slight bitterness of all the flavors. I'd recommend 25% sweetness if you're here for the tea flavor. The servers I've usually gotten are quite stand offish and not super friendly but still polite. Wish I could get some more conversation about recommended items and options and such. Drinks: 9/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 4/10 Value: 7/10 ”

“ Great small boba shop packed with customers on a Saturday afternoon. The server recommended passion fruit green team and I went for 50% sweetness (lowest level). The tea tastes extremely refreshing and full of real flavor while not overall sweet. Definitely worth the hype and wait and I would try other flavors next time! ”

“ love love their tea lattes! i ha e tried phoenix oolong, rose guanyin, and ceremonial grade matcha latte and they were all great! i would recommend phoenix oolong for anyone who likes classic oolong rose guanyin for anyone who likes sweet floral flavor. it kinda taste like lychee matcha latte for anyone who likes matcha the matcha is more on the sweet side and the flavor of matcha isn’t strong nor bitter they also use real whole milk and oat milk and not the powder kind ”

“ Came across this tea shop while driving nearby and decided to try it. Walked in and the tea aroma hit me. It smelled so good. They display their tea by the counter to let you know they use real tea leafs. peachy oolong tea: their peach was a bit sour so the tea flavor wasn’t quite there. There’s chunks of peach in there so we know it’s real fruits. I didn’t think this was the best combo but did not hate it. It was different. I’d want to try their tea on its own to taste that quality in the future. umami matcha milk frappe: definitely a must get if you like matcha. The quality taste better than most I’ve had. It still had small chunks of ice in it but I kind of liked it. Seating: 4 chairs + can sit around the tree + small bench. I’m assuming it’s dog friendly since there’s a water dog bowl outside. Decoration: modern and simple. Their merchandise is on the wall. I love how they kept the place simple. Not overcrowded or anything. Staff: super nice and is willing to explain the drinks! Price: reasonable. Go during soft opening for 10% off! ”

“ A very cute boba shop hidden in a Costa Mesa business plaza. First of all, I really like the design of this place; it's simple but very modern. So far, the drinks have been good but have not really impressed me; I will come back to try other drinks. ”
